Looking for Dilmun - second edition
Dilmun was a land which stretched beyond the confines of Bahrain, as far north as Kuwait, and as far south as Saudi Arabia. The quest for the real Dilmun began when the author revisited Bahrain in order to explore the thousands of undated burial mounds scattered across the country. A season's digging established the existence of a major civilisation dating from around 2300 BC. First published in 1969 this fascinating book of discovery tells the story of archaeological detective work with style and humour. It is re-issued here for a new generation of readers.
This edition carries a new foreword by Dr Harriet Crawford and some additional material. |

| Geoffrey Bibby - Author of Looking for Dilmun. Born in Westmorland in 1917, he decided in his teens to be a Middle Eastern archaeologist. He studied Arabic and Babylonian cuneiform at Cambridge and learned about the practical side of excavation while digging on Hadrian's Wall in northern England. After service, he got to the Middle East by joining the Iraq Petroleum Company. On his way back to England three years later, a chance encounter with Peter Glob, newly appointed Professor of Archaeology at Arhus, led not only to the Dilmun expeditions, but to a career as Curator of Oriental Antiquities at the Prehistoric Museum of Arhus.
