After the Pyramids

This book looks at the funerary monuments of the Egyptian kings, from the decline of the royal pyramid at the end of the Middle Kingdom, to the Classical accounts of the tomb of the last Macedonian ruler of Egypt, Kleopatra VII.

The lesser known last representatives of the pyramidal genre are discussed, followed by the New Kingdom monuments and finally the tombs constructed by the kings of the Third Intermediate.

The book covers the architecture and decoration of the monuments, and their contents. The last chapter looks at the organization and methods of construction during the New Kingdom, concentrating on the village of Deir el-Medina and on the plundering of the tombs.
Aidan Dodson - Born in 1962, Aidan read Egyptian archaeology at Durham, Liverpool and Cambridge, receiving a BA, MPhil and PhD. He has lectured widely across the world and has had several books and over 80 papers and reviews published.
