Sir Donald Hawley - Author of Courtesies in the Gulf Area. Sir Donald had much experience as a scholar of the Gulf Area. Trained as a Barrister-at-Law, he worked with the Sudan Government (1944-5) and thereafter served with H.M. Diplomatic Service, as Political Agent in Dubai (1958-61), and in Cairo, Lagos, and Baghdad. Sir Donald was Britain's first Ambassador to Oman (1971-75) and was British High Commissioner in Malaysia (1977-81). He died in 2008.
